The performance of this laptop is outstanding compared to most laptops in the price range. It's unfortunate that Dell decided to preload Mcafee's security suite on the machine. Uninstalling Mcafee disables your network connection preventing you to get online. Reading up on this machine, it seems many people have this issue with the Mcafee suite. After reinstalling all of the software, this machine is pretty speedy. If you aren't sure how to reinstall Windows and all of the applications, be prepared to pay for subscriptions to Mcafee. You will be permanently offline if you choose to remove it.

The webcam will keep kids entertained for hours with its facial recognition software. You can put goofy hair, hats, and other decorations on your face real-time. Not really a practical feature, but it is pretty cool.

Aside from software bugs on the machine, this is an awesome computer, and it feels quite sturdy. It seems to be a pretty solid machine, and I think I will enjoy having it.

Cons
Built-in Mcafee software disables your network connection if you uninstall it.
Dell includes reinstallation discs, not recovery discs.
Most of the pre-loaded apps cannot be reinstalled from their DVDs if you choose to reinstall windows.
Glossy finish on the inside of the laptop is prone to fingerprints/smudges.
Lack of dedicated media buttons (shared with F1-F12 keys)
No HDMI
No Bluetooth
No Blu-ray
Only 3 USB ports
Lack of 10 keypad

I've owned several laptops and would be considered an intermediate to advanced computer user. I've built my own desktops, tweaked a few laptops and owned various brands of laptops including HP, Fujitsu, Sony and Dell (Inspiron, Latitude and XPS series).

I purchased this laptop directly from Dell based upon Consumer Report's November 2009 article recommendations where the Dell Inspiron 1545 was rated a 'Best Buy' for every day computing. I purchased it for my husband who will use it primarily for watching an occasional movie from Netflix streaming wirelessly on our home network, emailing to share jokes and videos with his friends, and browsing the Internet.

After setting it up, which other than running into a snag with my home network was a breeze, and playing with it for about an hour, these are my impressions.

The PROS:
+ Comes with Windows 7 - no need to upgrade, and the 64-bit combined with the more than adequate memory makes things move nicely. Slightly different than Vista's look, but should be easy to use.
+ Adequate hard drive (mine came with a 320) for storing photos, videos and music.
+ Great 1.3mp webcam which delivers pretty nice snapshots (not too grainy) as well as excellent video (very little drag of movement).
+ Good speakers! Better than those on my Dell XPS, for which I paid 30% more less than a year ago.
+ 3 usb ports
+ Bright 15.6" display; nice size. I sometimes find the 13" on the XPS too small and the Fujitsu had a 17" which is fine for a desktop replacement but really adds weight to the overall unit.
+ Virtually silent running. No fan noise to speak of and yet...
+ Stays cool to the touch! Not worried about overheating on this one.

The CONS:
- Keyboard is OK, but not as responsive as some others I've used.
- The touchpad seems a tad small and the buttons (left/right click) seem too low by comparison to the keyboard. It could be the size of my hands (small...) but I tend to think it's just the layout.
- The high gloss finish inside and the glossy display (versus matte finish) look cool, but do show fingerprints and reflect light to the point of sometimes being a nuisance.
- There is no 'media only' button like on the XPS where you don't have to turn on the computer to watch a movie, but this is something that higher end laptops would have and may simply be a perk to paying more.
- Heavier than some others, but at under six pounds, it's still not too bad.
- Matte finish on the outside shows greasy smudges where you've touched it. I have the same issue with my XPS, but frankly I've never found a finish that doesn't show something.
- Not a multi-media or gaming powerhouse. It will play dvd's and games, but if you're buying a laptop and really into those things, spend a bit more and make sure you upgrade your video and audio to support your interests. The 4GB of memory really helps as much as anything and I didn't notice any issues with the media I tested.

SET-UP:
The only issue I had with setting up this laptop was with my home network not being accepted because Windows 7 didn't like the security settings I had in place. I could get the 1545 to recognize my network, but it wouldn't connect until I changed the settings. I had my wireless settings on WEP and Windows 7 wanted WPA. Once I changed the settings, the laptop connected. I then had to go to 8 different devices on my network and make sure they were happy. Only one item: Myine Electronics IR001 WiFi Internet Radio Adaptor wasn't happy, but eventually accepted the settings with some concentrated tweaking.

BATTERY LIFE:
Battery life seems to be about 3.5 hours. I think the 4+ hour estimate is high, but that undoubtedly is also based upon what things you are doing on the laptop and mobile power settings.

CONCLUSION:
If you purchase this Dell you are getting a solid workhorse for every day computing for a fair price. I think it's quality is certainly higher than an Acer with the same specs, and backed by a 1 year warranty from Dell. (Having had a Dell laptop that needed the keyboard replaced recently, I truly think the warranty service provided by Dell - they came to my house the next day - is exceptional and worth the small price hike over some other brands.)

The Dell Inspiron 1545 is perfect for a student, a grandma who likes to email or wants to keep up with the grandkids on Skype, or anyone who has no need for the latest and greatest gaming, multi-media computer. For a laptop with a webcam, 4GB memory, and Windows 7 (64-bit) that's ready to fly right out of the box... it's a good choice.

My reply in which answer was to bucket the practical machine, though we hold the man finished up installing it as his first OS. He enclosed the youtube video demonstrating it. He additionally referred to which he had followed we hold the travel by regulating the penetrate called Demonoid. You can do the google poke for “hackintosh demonoid” as well as find all kinds of report about it.

It’s not true brazen or the easiest thing to do since OSX is privately finished to run upon Apple hardware. Yes it can be finished yet though it’s not as easy as installing Windows in the vm.

I'm sure the model numbers have changed, but this looks identical to the one we bought through Amazon about 4 years ago. For the last two years it has transmitted from a shed-row barn about 225' from our block house. Throughout the night, we hear every snuffle and glug-glug as clearly as if we were in the barn ourselves. Although the transmitter is protected from the rain and snow, it is subject to the same oppressive humidity levels as anything else above the wet low-end of the property just behind it. The horses require that no climate-control devices be used, so the base unit transmits continuously from an unheated/uncooled barn through temperatures ranging from 15 to 100 degrees. In the summer, an air-circulator drowns out most other sounds, but we can still hear the most important ones. The unit beeps a warning when a power flicker requires that it be reset (unplugged and replugged).

Bought this when my daughter was 2 months old. Was so easy to set up and I absolutely love that you can plug it in to an outlet because I am horrible at remembering to charge things. If you do unplug it it will stay charged for 8 hours+, just make sure you charge it correctly when you first purchase it. The clarity is amazing. I can hear her over the noise maker in her bedroom when she is wiggling around. She is 6 months old now and I've decided to get a monitor with a video screen because I wake her up every time I check on her, but other than that if you do not prefer a screen I highly recommend this product.

Summary: This monitor, redesigned in 2010, is a solid basic monitor with two receivers and has clear sound quality. We have had four monitors with our three kids. Here are six pieces of advice I would give after buying this fourth monitor.

(1) Baby monitors, which are on every night and for naps during the day for years, tend to wear out so it is worth keeping your receipt in case it breaks. With the continual use, it is perhaps understandable that they wear out faster than phones and other electronics.
(2) The documentation on this unit says "copyright Graco 2010" and all of the Amazon reviews are from 2011. This suggests to me that this was redesigned in 2010 so that those who review this unit and say things like, "We had this unit years ago and it broke" are probably talking about an earlier version of the product. Here's hoping it has been improved. It seems solid so far.
(3) This is a basic audio monitor with two receivers. It is simple. You set up the transmitter near the baby and then you have two receivers with which to hear the baby. We put one receiver in the kitchen and one in the parents' bedroom but of course you can put them anywhere and move them around wherever. The receivers also light up and vibrate to notify you the baby is awake but in my experience parents rarely rely on these features. Most all the products have at least the lighting feature.
(4) A basic audio monitor is probably all you need but I would probably get a video monitor today if we were having our first baby because as a new parent you want to see what the child is doing in the crib. Back in 2005 when we had our first baby, video monitors were more expensive and rare.
(5) In addition to this Graco model, Sony, Fisher-Price, The First Years, and Safety 1st have similar audio monitors with two receivers for a similar price on Amazon. (Motorola, Philips Avent, Angelcare and Levana all have basic monitors that come with a single receiver on Amazon).
(6) From my perusing of the reviews, all of the monitors receive mixed reviews--half very good and half very bad. The manufacturers acknowledge that phones, cell phones, radios, televisions, microwaves, wireless networks, and neighbor's electronics can interfere with the monitors. We have all these sources of potential interference and none of our monitors have had problems with interference. If the monitor you get has interference problems, I would send it back and try a different manufacturer and see if you have better luck. It seems to me from the reviews that all of the products sometimes have these types of problems. I would try to judge the products based on other issues besides interference since the reviews seem to be so contradictory on this issue.

I was very happy with my 10.1" Asus 1001P-PU17 but I cracked the screen while on vacation and need a replacement fast. While browsing Amazon I noticed this Acer was a bigger screen, more RAM and a bigger HD (320GB vs 250GB Asus) another big plus was Windows 7 Home Premium instead of Windows starter for just a few dollars more than the Asus sell for. I am extremely happy with it so far. It is actually lighter and thinner than the Asus and the battery life is about 6hrs (which is less than the Asus so that is the one compromise I made). The screen is very crisp and Netflix looks really clear. Highly recommended and this time I bought accidental protection for $25 through Safeware. The only negative is the glossy case - I would have much preferred something textured that does not show smudges.

I recently started looking at Netbooks when I first saw a Toshiba NB505 in a local store and almost purchased it. Fortunately I decided to look into them a little more before buying one. Like all computers two of the most important components for me are the processor and the ram. The Acer Aspire One AO722 is one of the few netbooks offering a dual core processor, up-gradable memory and Windows 7 Home (not Starter).

After being scared off by reviews from other netbook products (including some from Acer) complaining about long boot up times, slow performance etc.. I decided to try this unit. So far it has exceeded my expectations in every way (keeping in mind that it is a netbook and not a mini-laptop). In fact several times I have found my wife favoring it over her newer HP laptop. Right out of the box (with 2GB of Ram) it was streaming Netflix video with no hesitation, skipping or jerking. I have since upgraded the Ram to 4 GB and it still performs super. As for speed it boots to the windows login screen in 30 seconds or less and including typing in my password windows is open and fully functioning within 45 second of powering the unit on (neither my desktop or my wifes laptop can boot up that quickly).

Pros:
Windows 7 Home (not Starter)
Dual Core Processor
320 GB Hard Drive
Up-gradable Ram
Long Battery Life

Cons:
Epresso Black Finish easily shows fingerprints
Speaker volume not very loud - even at full volume
Some noticeable keyboard flex while typing - although does not effect performance

All in all a great netbook for a good price. Like all netbooks just keep in mind that it is a netbook (limited multi-tasking)and not a miniature laptop. Use it accordingly and I am sure you love it. Buying your first netbook is confusing and a bit overwhelming but it is hard to see where you could go wrong with the ACER AO722.
